How I Tame My Toddler’s Curly Hair

Do you have a toddler with curly, frizzy, hard to tame hair?

This was a few months ago before her curls really came in, but we were dealing with this super frizzy hair & I knew I needed to find something to tame it.

It’s taken a few months, but I’ve finally figured out how to somewhat manage her curls. Below is everything I’ve been using on her hair for the last few months:

SoCozy Kids Curl Leave in Conditioner this stuff is great! Doesn’t leave her hair hard or crunchy & has a nice (not overwhelming) scent.

Spray bottle for water– I filled this with water to use when her hair is dry

Comb This comes with a brush & comb. When her hair was straighter I would use the brush, but now I ONLY use the comb. This comb is great for to use when her hair is wet, but NEVER brush or comb dry hair if it’s curly!

Ouchless Hair TiesMake sure you get the ouchless ones! I made the mistake of buying the ones that don’t say ouchless & it makes a huge difference.

BowsWe’ve been using these same bows for over a year now & they’ve held up so well with daily use!

This is generally what her hair will look like at the end of the day! Definitely a little frizzy, but nothing compared to what it looked like before we began using the leave in conditioner.

I mentioned before you should never brush or comb curly hair when it’s dry so this routine usually is done after her bath or I’ll spray her hair after she wakes up with some water.

Once it’s wet I’ll spray a generous amount of leave in conditioner and use a comb to brush the knots out (people say never to brush curly hair even when it’s wet, but it’s the only way to actually get Mackenzie’s knots out).

Once it’s combed, I’ll then run my fingers through her hair & then the most important thing is not to keep touching it.

This is after I’ve run my fingers through her hair.

We usually do bath at night so she’ll go to sleep with wet hair & when she wakes I’ll spray her hair with some water & a little bit more of the leave in conditioner, comb it, run my fingers through it and she’s good to go!

Not, the best picture, but this is how her curls will dry, they are soft to the touch & mostly perfect ringlets!

Another tip if you have curly hair is to use a silk pillowcase. I would love to use one with Mackenzie, but she’s such a hot sleeper & silk is not breathable at all!
