Indoor Toddler Activities For When You Can’t Go Outside

Below you’ll find a list of some of my favorite indoor activities, which are especially great for rainy days! If you have a toddler like mine who loves the rain, you’ll still want to get outside, as long as it’s safe, for some fresh air & puddle jumping!

These are activities that you can most likely do with the stuff you already have around your house:

Fill a bowl with soapy water & give your kid bowls, cups, & spoons

Make a fort with couch cushions & blankets or use a nugget or play couch you have

Create an obstacle course with things you have in your home (painters tape is great for this)

Bake or cook with your toddler

Make play dough

Have your kiddo help you around the house (put away silverware, put laundry up, cleaning)

Put your kiddo in the bath & pretend to go swimming!

Have a tea party

Below are suggestions using some of our favorite toys around the house to keep little ones busy on a rainy day:

If you need a table, floor, or window activity, here are some ideas:

Squiz are great suction toys & tons of fun on a table or window!

If you’re looking for a fun game for toddlers, this matching bears game can be played many different ways!

These cardboard blocks can provide endless fun! (these need to be put together, so make sure you set time aside to do this beforehand)

Duplo bricks are great for little hands!

Stamping is a fun activity to set up for your little one!

This Rock N’ Gem surprise game is loads of fun & can keep your little one busy for a while.

If you need an activity that gets your kiddo up and moving while inside, here are some ideas:

A pikler triangle is great if your kid loves to climb.

Scavenger hunt- You can make one up on your own or use these cards!

Set up an egg hunt

Make a fort with couch cushions or a nugget couch!

Set up an obstacle course with stuff you already have at home (painters tape and these stepping stones are great for this)

This bowling set is great for indoors because the pins are soft so they don’t make a ton of noise!

If your kid likes dramatic/pretend play, try one of these:

Get a baby doll or stuffed animals with some blankets & baby bottles. You can also use a doll stroller, highchair, and/or crib for some fun pretend play.

A play kitchen with food and pots & pans can provide endless fun!

This kid food truck is great for pretend play as well, & comes with multiple levels as they get older.

Have a tea party!

If your kid likes sensory play, here are some ideas:

Playdough- there are so may fun playdough kits out there to keep your kiddo busy for a while.

Kinetic sand kit

Bowls with soapy water & spoons

Finger paint– we have non toxic washable finger paint that is great if your kid likes to get messy!

And if you’ve done activities all day long, here’s your reminder that it’s okay to turn the tv on for some chill-out time!
