Putting My 8.5 Month Old Daughter On Skis
If you know me then you know how special this was for me and if you don’t know me let me tell you! I have been skiing since I was 3, going to Vermont every weekend in the winter with my family since I was little. Skiing is just in my blood and also why my blog is named what it is. Growing up the drive from Long Island was about 4 hours to our home in Wilmington, Vermont, but back then it was just a normal drive for us every weekend. Once I was moved to Connecticut, the drive became a 2.5 hour drive, which was incredible!
Once I got pregnant, I dreamt about all the time we would spend in Vermont with our daughter. We love Vermont during every season, but my favorite is winter since we get to ski with family and friends often. Our first trip up with M was when she was just 6 weeks old, which was so special for us. We got to bring her to the place where her parents met, got engaged, and were married. Mount Snow is such a special place for our family and it was incredible getting to show our daughter this wonderful place.
Her first few trips to Vermont were during summer and fall, but I was most excited for Winter since I couldn’t wait to put her on skis, which I planned to do before the ski season ended. I knew she wouldn’t be walking yet, but I knew we could put her on plastic skis and take her down the beginner hill (not so much a hill, but more like a little slope).
The weekend had finally arrived, a warm weekend at the end of March, and I had gotten a pair of plastic skis from a friend who no longer needed them (side note: I’m so grateful to the community and friends I’ve made during all the time I’ve spent in Vermont, it’s really a special place)! I realized a little too late that we didn’t have a pair of proper snow boots for her since she wasn’t walking yet. We made the pair of boots we did have work, but the skis didn’t really stay on (oops). It was so special to watch her dad take her up the magic carpet and down the slope a few times, I love watching those two together!
I will 100000% admit that putting M on skis was more for me than for her. She had moments where she wasn’t crying, but for the most part she was not thrilled with this new activity. We call her a little furnace since she’s always so warm, so I think she was sweating in her snowsuit and like I said, we didn’t have the right snow boots so the skis wouldn’t stay on. We were not as prepared as we probably could have been, but all in all I’m glad we got to put her on skis and now I can say she was skiing at 8.5 months old and if you know me at all, you know what that means to me 😉
All I can think about is next winter and how exciting it will be to get her out on the slopes more often 🙂
