My Travel Guide To Mount Snow, Vermont
I’ve been going up to Vermont, specifically Mount Snow, since I was a newborn. My parents would bring me and my sisters up all the time, all year round. It became my second home and now I get to bring my daughter up to my favorite place. I met my husband at Mount Snow, we got engaged at Mount Snow, & got married at Mount Snow, so it’s easy to say that this place is special to us.
I wanted to put together a little guide to the area since I know it pretty well. I’ve broken it down by things to do during different seasons, where to stay, different hiking trails in the area, shopping, & restaurants in the area.
Where to stay:
I suggest anywhere in West Dover or Wilmington if you plan to ski at mount snow. The Grand Summit Hotel is ski in, ski out and is located right at the base of the mountain. If you can find a place that has shuttle service (The Moover) that’s the best! It’ll take you right to the mountain and back! There are places all along Route 100 and Handle road.
Winter
My number one recommendation is going to be skiing or snowboarding at Mount Snow. If you need child care, there’s Mount Snow Childcare for children 6 weeks up to age 6 and then you can put them in lessons for skiing or snowboarding starting at age 3. You can also schedule a private lesson as well as group lessons. If skiing or snowboarding don’t interest you, but you want to still do something at the mountain you should check out the tubing hill. There’s snowmobiling about 25 mins away from Mount Snow!
Spring
This is known as mud season so beware when you head up during the spring time months!
Summer
Summer time in southern VT is so nice! Theres so much to do like take a chairlift ride or go mountain biking down Mount Snow. Head out on Lake Whitingham on a boat, wave runner, kayak, or paddle board! Another nice spot to check out is Lake Raponda. Theres a little beach area to hang out and then swimming in the lake! You can golf in the summer at both Mount Snow Golf Course & Haystack Golf Course.
Fall
Fall is my second favorite season up here. It’s gorgeous with all the leaves changing and the weather is perfect! There are many festivals at the mountain between Labor Day and Columbus Day. Chairlift rides are still happening up until Columbus Day weekend.
- Mount Snow Brewers Festival (Labor Day weekend)
- Wine & Harvest Festival (Sometime usually mid/late September)
- Mount Snow Oktober Festival (Columbus Day weekend)
Hikes (these are good to do year round, in winter use snow shoes or cross country skis for flatter terrain)
- Molly Stark trail
- Mount Snow- There are hiking trails during the summer & fall, but during the winter there is uphill access, but only during certain times and certain trails.
- Crosstown Trail
