Why I Started This Blog
I created this blog as a place for me to write about my experience as a mom [a whole 6 months!] I’m hoping it can be a space for me to share all that I’ve learned and things I have yet to learn with other mamas out there. Becoming a mom during a pandemic was scary to say the least. The pregnancy I had in my head was not the pregnancy I experienced. All baby classes were virtual which made it difficult to have a true baby class experience and sadly I was forced to attend many doctor appointments alone. At this point you’re probably thinking, wow this is depressing to read, but hear me out. I want to let other mama’s know, who are going through something similar, you aren’t alone. In the beginning I am sure a lot of my posts will revolve around being pregnant and giving birth during a pandemic, but I promise not all my posts will sound so “poor-me”. I have some fun ideas like my favorite baby clothing brands, best baby products through 6 months, baby food recipes, and other new topics that have yet to come to me!
Now onto the question, why create a blog in such a saturated space? There are many things I’ve gone through in the past 6 months and since we are in a pandemic I’m not able to talk to my friends or family and share these experiences with them in person like I would normally do. I thought why not create a place where I can share my stories and maybe help some other parents out that may be in the same position as me. I have no expectations for this, as I see it right now as a space for me to write down all my thoughts. I see it as adding in some “me” time to my already jam-packed day! When pregnant everyone says to “sleep when baby sleeps”, but it’s also so important to carve out time for yourself! Now actually experiencing parenthood, I’ve realized it’s so important to do something for yourself or you’ll go crazy (the dishes or laundry can wait…for your spouse)!
I follow many accounts on Instagram that are either solely about parenting or people who are parents just like me. It’s been helpful to see people like me going through similar experiences. The pandemic has affected us all in different ways. It has been especially tough with a newborn at home since a simple errand isn’t as easy as it used to be. I have to have my mom or mother-in-law come watch M if I want to run to the grocery store or go to target since I don’t feel comfortable bringing her on errands yet. I’m also unable to see my friends for a simple lunch date due to the pandemic [I’m hoping once it’s warm we can at least see each other outdoors]. Let’s just say I am excited for warmer weather and outdoor activities [a statement I don’t usually say since I’m a winter lover and long for the days I can get back on the mountain].
Lastly, I am making no claims to be a fantastic writer, I am the person who literally types out exactly what she’s thinking and sometimes I feel like my sentences are too wordy, or maybe that sentence I just typed out doesn’t make a whole lot of sense [this sentence should be case and point]. In addition to everything else, I’m hoping this blog will help me become a better writer! I am excited for this journey no matter how it turns out, and I hope you can pick up some helpful tips along the way.
