My Thoughts on Internet Privacy and Blogging

When I decided to start this blog, one thought I kept having was how putting myself on the internet could be very scary since the internet can be a frightening place. So when I decided to start a mom-blog I had to take into account my daughter and her privacy. She’s only 6 months old and I don’t feel comfortable publicly putting her picture on the web. I never really thought about this before since I have a private account on instagram and only have followers who are family and friends. Having a public instagram account has made me rethink everything I post. Now, when I plan a post with photos, I take pictures where you can’t see M’s entire face. I will occasionally post a side profile picture, but I feel like there’s a fine line between putting my daughters entire face on the internet or just some of her face. I will most likely share my daughter’s name soon, but right now I am enjoying referring to her as M!

When I had this idea to start a mom-blog I knew I had to talk to my husband about what we are both comfortable with, in terms of what I share on my blog/instagram. Putting a picture of our daughter or sharing information about her isn’t something I can do without discussing it first with Greg. It should be a collaborative discussion so we can both decide what we are comfortable with.

Right now I feel I owe my daughter this privacy since she’s not old enough to make these types of decisions. I want to protect her any way I can and if that means keeping her off the internet in a public way, then that’s what I’ll do. This might change, but right now this is what I feel comfortable with.

I will do my best to share pictures and stories along with photos that are helpful, even if that means putting an emoji over my daughters face. I hope that my pictures can still be “blog worthy” or “instagram worthy”, I just have to be more thoughtful when planning posts and pictures!
