Great Children’s Books To Include In Your Child’s First Library

We have all of these books and I absolutely love reading them with Mackenzie. Reading a book is a part of our nap & bedtime routine so we read quite a few books a day. She also will just sit for a few minutes and turn the pages of books while she’s in her room or play area. She also loves pulling all her books off the shelf, but we won’t get into that activity here!

I love all of these books for different reasons. Some are super repetitive, like DADA or Dear Zoo, and others have tactile components to them like, Where’s the Unicorn, that has felt flaps on each page (also great, because little hands can’t rip these flaps). Sound books like, What Do You Say, Little Blue Truck? are great because there’s a sound component and also pointing & pushing the buttons to make the sounds. My First I See You book has mirrors on every page. My point is, try to incorporate many different types of books into your little one’s first library. Different books will engage them differently, and some kids may prefer certain books over others depending on what type of book it is.

We got a few of these books through our Split Rock Bookstore subscription and we would never have heard of these books had it not been for that. I will say Brilliant Baby Plays Music & Red House, Brown Mouse are two of Mackenzie’s favorite books and we can thank Split Rock Bookstore for them!

If you can, it’s great to shop small and local bookstores. Amazon can be so easy, and I’ll admit we’ve definitely ordered from Amazon, but I really do try to buy in our town or surrounding towns if I can!

+ Little Blue Truck : We love the Little Blue Truck Series (as you can see I have two of them in this post alone!) I love the rhyming words and all the different animals.

+ Brilliant Baby Plays Music: This is one we got from our Split Rock Book Subscription and we love it!

+ Red House, Brown Mouse: Again, this one came from Split Rock Bookstore and Mackenzie loves it. Some pages have questions which can be great for older children. Some pages have them count and point to objects which I also love!

+ Where’s The Unicorn?: This book has FELT LIFT-THE-FLAPS and it’s honestly genius! Pictures and words are simple which is great for young children.

+ I Love You to The Moon and Back: This is a super sweet book to read with your little one.

+ Your Baby’s First Word Will Be Dada: I absolutely love reading this one with Mackenzie. Each page says Dada or an animal sound and Mackenzie thinks it’s so funny!

+ What Do You Say, Little Blue Truck?: This is a new book in the Little Blue Truck Series and we love it. There are animal sounds for each page & Mackenzie loves to push the buttons.

+ My First I See You: This book has a mirror on each page which adds a new element and keeps her engaged!

+ Babies Love Board Book Series: I love these books because they have chunky lift-the-flaps which are great for little hands!

+ Dear Zoo: This is a great book for repetition! It also has lift the flaps (in all different directions which is great) and incorporates many different animals.

+ Pop Up Peekaboo Books: There are so many different Pop Up Peekaboo books out there and we have a handful. They’re great lift-the-flap pop up books for kids.

+ I’ve Loved You Since Forever: This is another super sweet book to read to your little one. It incorporates repetition & rhyming on every page.

+ Babies on the Farm: This book has chunky lift-the-flaps and I love it for tiny hands.

Let me know what books your little ones love to read with you!
